DYNAMICS HATFIELD CRICKET CLUB
FOUNDED 1948
AFFILIATED TO THE CLUB CRICKET CONFERENCE
Who are we?
Originally a works side, the Club was formed in 1948 by employees of the DeHavilland Company, later becoming British Aerospace. Until 1989 the Club played at the BAe Dynamics ground in Manor Road, Hatfield where enthusiastic drinking also took place in the social club after matches. After the closure of the site, a number of players decided to form their own team but kept the name “Dynamics Hatfield Cricket Club”. Home games have been played at Shephalbury Park, and more recently King George V playing fields, Stevenage ever since, but post-match imbibing with opponents has seen a number of different venues over the years. Currently we receive a warm welcome and fine beers at The Station pub in Knebworth.
Strictly Dynamics
DHCC is a strictly non-league, Sunday afternoon, friendly match type of club. Whilst playing to a reasonable standard, we are strictly fun-loving and strictly playing cricket traditionally “the way it should be played”. (Strictly between you and me, this means we also lose a fair number of games). Most of us are also strictly non-teetotal.
Our fixtures
Our matches are mainly against local village teams such as Frogmore, Kimpton, Sandon and Whitwell. We also arrange games with a few pub sides from the area.
What else do we do?
We also arrange “socials” including ten-pin bowling nights, darts and pool competitions, curry or chinese evenings and trips to International Cricket matches. There is also the skipper’s favourite – the Annual Club Dinner usually held in November. Since 1983 the Club has organised an annual tour during the late Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May. For many years we visited Norfolk, but in 2002 the Dynamics roadshow travelled to Wiltshire and Somerset and, having enjoyed it so much, we decided to return and will do so again in 2006. We also run a fund-raising, prize-winning Fantasy Cricket competition. For the perfectionist we run winter nets between January and April, and, for the intellectual cricket lover, during the cricket season the Club provides a monthly magazine which is issued free as nobody would pay good money for it.
Ouch!!
Being a small, independent club, DHCC relies heavily on annual subscriptions and match fees from it’s members. Currently, annual membership is £20 per year and fees are £6 per match.
Anything else?
Probably, but can’t think of it at the moment. Club Chairman, Pete Ibbetson, tel no. 01438 833324, or Secretary, Gareth Harper on 01923 247399, will be able to answer any queries in their more sober moments, so give either a call.
